For an adult dog, you will have to have the animal complete a 24-hour fast with water as desired and start with meals of thawed meat for at least one week. Once the transition is completed, you can give your dog frozen or semi-thawed meals to help clean its teeth. Fasting does not apply to puppies.
Here are but a few of the many benefits a raw food diet can offer your furry friend:
- Healthy weight
- Improved absorption of proteins
- Soft and shiny fur
- Better growth for puppies
- Boosted immune system
- Reduction of tartar
- Improved hydration
- Animals that are more active and less nervous
- Fewer feces to pick up
It is important to not mix kibble and raw in the same meal because raw food is digested quickly whereas kibble takes longer and is harder for the dog to digest. For an adult dog, you should fast the animal for 12-24 hours ensuring that water is available at all times before introducing a thawed raw meal for the first week.
